Singapore math teacher institute.

New to the Singapore approach to teaching mathematics or need a refresher? This online workshop was designed with you in mind. Whether you are a classroom teacher or home educator, you’ll gain the confidence and competence to successfully use the methodologies from Singapore to create lessons that inspire a love of math.

This workshop is designed to prepare educators to teach Singapore Mathematics in Kindergarten through 5th grade.

Through a series of four cohesive modules, you will develop and hone your understanding of:

  • Lesson planning that incorporates best practices in mathematics education using your curriculum

  • Mental math and the role it plays in deepening number sense

  • Problem solving strategies that include comprehension and visualization

  • Using bar modeling as a problem solving tool to access challenging problems

Implementation.

These onsite or online sessions provide teachers and administrators with the content knowledge and effective mathematics teaching practices to successfully launch the school year. Faculty and support staff will receive in-depth instruction including:

  • The C-P-A approach to teaching and learning mathematics through active engagement in demonstration lessons

  • The phases of learning and how to choose appropriate manipulatives to build effective lessons

  • Content knowledge and number sense. Topics from the early grades through middle school will be explored and mental math strategies will be practiced

  • Using bar modeling to help students visualize and solve challenging problems in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, ratio, and percentage

  • Implementing best practices and designing lessons that include exploration, consolidation, reflection, practice and assessment

 

Singapore math coaches institute.

This series of synchronous and asynchronous sessions will provide teacher leaders the tools necessary to mentor veteran and newly hired teachers. This leadership training includes:

  • Identifying essential skills for each grade level and creating benchmarking assessments to track student growth towards mastering those skills.

  • Detailed work on effective lesson modeling and in-classroom support of teachers.

  • Walkthroughs on how to create and use observation checklists.

  • Techniques for planning engaging math meetings for faculty and staff.

  • Developing the skills to assist in designing a schedule to address remediation and enrichment for students

  • Developing the tools needed to train and mentor newly hired faculty

Coaching.

Continue to support your teachers’ growth throughout the school year with additional onsite and online coaching.

  • Take your instruction to the next level with lesson modeling and observations. Immediate feedback will be provided to assist faculty as they set goals for professional growth.

  • Identify and define essential skills, develop benchmarking tools, and work collaboratively to create a pacing guide focusing on student achievement.

  • Work with grade level teams to plan lessons, improve content knowledge, and explore formative assessment tools.

  • Work with administrators and math leaders to identify and promote best practices in mathematics education.
